1) SUG-TX April 28th
Meeting - DataWindow 2.5 and 3.0 Sneak Peak
The Sybase Users’ Group of
Texas will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. The
presentation will be on DataWindow .NET 2.5, hosted by Don Clayton of Intertech
Consulting.
Built on a rich history of
innovative technology so powerful that it has several patents, Sybase
DataWindow .NET plugs into Visual Studio .NET to build robust presentation
layers for data-driven applications — whether they are rich client, smart
client, mobile or wireless. One tool quickly and easily incorporates data access,
complex business logic, and data presentation into .NET applications.
New with version 2.5,
DataWindow .NET provides a set of plug-ins that enable developers to create
DataWindows inside of Visual Studio .NET without ever having to leave the IDE.
And, with a new Web services DataWindow, you can easily access, manipulate and
display data from Web services.
DataWindow .Net includes
hundreds of built-in functions, properties and declarative programming options,
providing developers with high levels of productivity in a virtually code-free
tool. The new WebForms for ASP.NET and Microsoft handwriting recognition
support makes adding complex forms and signature recognition to application an
easy task.
The standard data access
components in your .NET framework and development environment require tedious,
time consuming coding. Let DataWindow .NET help your business break through the
data grid-lock!

4) Sybase IQ 15 Analytics
Server Software Achieves Industry Leading Price/Performance Result for Data
Warehousing
Best TPC-H benchmark
achieved at 3000 GB scale factor; Sybase IQ 15 now generally available
DUBLIN, CALIF. — APRIL 2,
2009 — Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), the largest enterprise software and
services company exclusively focused on managing and mobilizing information,
today announced that Sybase® IQ 15,
combined with Sun Microsystems’ Sun Fire™ X4540 storage server and running the
Solaris™ 10 Operating System (OS), recorded the best price/performance result
in the TPC-H benchmark at 3000 GB scale factor for all non-clustered systems1.
This benchmark simulates decision support systems that analyze large volumes of
data, executes queries with a high degree of complexity, and gives answers to
critical business questions. The outcome of this testing further illustrates
the effectiveness of Sybase IQ 15 in helping to optimize IT asset utilization
and significantly reduce ownership costs.
“Today, enterprises are more
than ever searching for ways to give their business decision makers
ad-hoc, real-time analytics on large volumes of data while adhering to
constrained IT budgets,” said Dan Lahl, director of marketing, Sybase IQ.
“This benchmark is proof-positive that the compatibility of these two leading
technologies creates an analytics solution which provides the fastest and most
affordable method for users to acquire critical business answers from
large-scale databases.”
This TPC-H benchmark, using
the Sybase and Sun Microsystems' solutions, demonstrated several industry
leading proof points:
· The
best price/performance at the 3000 GB scale-factor amongst non-clustered
systems with $5.26 per QphH
· The
only column-based system to achieve world record performance and
price/performance at the 3000 GB scale-factor on a non-clustered system
· Ultimate
storage density with up to 48 terabytes in a single system with a 4RU
footprint, consuming less than 1000W of power
"The Sun Fire X4540
server system has redefined the data warehouse, giving customers greater
storage density in a 'box' that consumes minimal amounts of power," said
Ray Austin, Storage Product Management, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "The
combination of the Sybase IQ 15 analytic software with the Sun Fire X4540
server system running the Solaris 10 OS offers an easy- to-manage solution for
customers that need high performance analytics and reporting at a low price
point."
More than 1,500 customers
worldwide have adopted the Sybase IQ column-based approach to analytics,
delivering more accurate and cost-effective analytics solutions that enable
winning business results by attracting new customers, growing revenues, and
predicting outcomes and risks in today’s competitive global climate. Sybase IQ
15 further builds upon this data analytics foundation to provide the fastest
and most feature-rich column-based analytics offering in the marketplace today.

5) Jim Swartz, Sybase CIO,
Talks About Maximizing the Business Impact of IT During Tough Times
Sybase is no stranger to
tough economic periods. Before 2001, Sybase was a database company loosing more
than a $100 million a year on revenues that peaked at $700 million. Other
problems included high employee turnover and doom and gloom comments from Wall
Street analysts and computer industry analysts. Today, Sybase has revenues of
more than $1.1 billion, backed by solid profitability and double-digit growth
in key market segments. Sybase also has emerged as leader in embedded software
for analytical applications and for mobile devices. Sybase might be on the road
toward meeting its $2 billion revenue mark, but a key part of the corporate
strategy calls for controlling costs and finding ways for the company to
improve business processes. Jim Swartz, Sybase's CIO and vice president, says,
"Our mantra is to simplify, to standardize, and to consolidate."
Enterpriseleadership.org recently sat down with Swartz to talk about the
initiatives his organization has put in place to deal with this economic
downturn. Read the interview at:
