1)  SUG-TX February Meeting: Building iPad and iPhone apps with Appeon for PowerBuilder

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, February 26th, 2013. The presentation will be on the Appeon Mobile platform, which is in Beta testing and allows for development of iPhone and iPad applications using PowerBuilder.

Appeon Mobile is the first and revolutionary solution that enables PowerBuilder developers to rapidly and easily build native mobile apps from the PowerBuilder IDE. Native mobile apps, unlike HTML apps, offer powerful native mobile functionality, fast performance, and offline application access. Appeon Mobile Apps, although native, can be run on virtually all mobile device OS, including iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

Appeon’s roadmap for 2013 and beyond will also be reviewed.  Don Clayton and Jeff Wayt, two of our own SUG_TX User Group Board of Directors, plan to show a preview of the Appeon Mobile Beta.

5)  Database & Developer Digest Blog

Check out the Database & Developer Digest Blog by Adrian Bridgwater at www.isug.com.  One of his latest blogs talks about SAP’s Business Information Warehouse. Bridgwater states “SAP likes to refer to SAP BW (in its shorter acronym-based form) as a matter of course, often without fully defining the technology.

Here is a nice, short, easily digestible definition of this software.

The reporting, analysis, and interpretation of business data is of central importance to a company in guaranteeing its competitive edge, optimizing processes and enabling it to react quickly and in line with the market and this is where SAP BW sits.

“As a core component of SAP NetWeaver, the SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) provides data warehousing functionality, a business intelligence platform, and a suite of business intelligence tools that enable businesses to attain these goals.”

“Relevant business information from productive SAP applications and all external data sources can be integrated, transformed, and consolidated in SAP BW with the toolset provided. SAP BW provides flexible reporting and analysis tools to support you in evaluating and interpreting data, as well as facilitating its distribution. Businesses are able to make well-founded decisions and determine target-orientated activities on the basis of this analysis.” Learn more at www.isug.com.
