1)  SUG-TX March Meeting

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. The presentation will be in two parts: the first part of the meeting will discuss and present information on SAP’s continuing efforts to integrate Sybase, Inc. into the SAP family.  We will also discuss the group’s plans for future meetings in 2012.  The second part of the meeting will be titled, “Evolving Real PowerBuilder Application: Stories from the Road” by Don Clayton, Intertech Consulting, Inc.

Abstract:

PowerBuilder applications are doing real work every day at companies large, medium and small. In this presentation Don takes time to discuss what some big PowerBuilder projects have taught us in terms of best practices and approaches.  Don was recently interviewed in a webinar by IDC analyst Al Hilwa, Research Program Director for Application Development.  The webinar kicked-off the conversation with a short presentation of evolving trends and the changing landscape in Application Development. The presentation was then followed by a lively discussion where Al and Don blended real-life stories with lessons, best practices and alternative approaches that will become possible as Sybase moves along its PowerBuilder roadmap. The key areas of the Don’s discussion will be:

·                     Approaches to User Interface Modernization of older PowerBuilder Applications
·                     How to continually enhance the ROI of PowerBuilder Applications
·                     How and why PowerBuilder teams navigate the IDE choice between .NET and Classic

6)  International Sybase User Group Badges

ISUG members can now earn badges for commenting on blog postings.  This is the first of many badge activities that will be rolling out over the coming weeks to reward members who are actively participating in the community.

ISUG decided to start with the blogs to make members more aware of this capability they have in the ISUG community.  If you are a member you can create your own blog simply by going to ‘My Blog’ and writing an article.  If you want your ISUG blog to appear on the front page, just send us a quick email.  If you already blog outside of ISUG, you can always cross-post.

ISUG is adding badges for blog posting, forum questions & answers shortly.  They will also be adding badges that are specific to 2012.  The first badge is a lifetime badge — it applies to all blog comments you’ve posted (which would include comments from last year); a 2012 badge would only include comments in 2012.  This will be particularly helpful in the forums so we can see who are the most active current participants!
