1)  SUG-TX September 27th Meeting – TechWave 2011 Wrap-Up

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.  The presentation will be the annual TechWave Wrap-up featuring the announcements and presentations from TechWave 2011.

TechWave 2011 is co-located with SAP TechEd 2011 at The Venetian Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, NV.  The keynotes, general sessions, exhibit hall, and special event will be shared for SAP TechEd and TechWave attendees.  Join us at the meeting to hear all about TechWave 2011.

5:45pm – 6:00pm          Meeting Wrap Up
6:30pm –                      Post meeting discussions at Champps Americana (at the Uptown location)

The meetings are held at HAL-PC, 4543 Post Oak Place, Suite 200, Houston, TX 77027 (map).  Members frequently continue discussions at Champps Sports Bar after the meeting while waiting for traffic to subside.

2)  SUG-TX August 23rd Meeting Highlights

The Sybase Users’ Group of Texas held their August meeting on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.  The presentation was “Building Thoroughly Modern Systems in PowerBuilder” by Don Clayton, President of Intertech Consulting.

In the presentation, both strategies for modernizing PowerBuilder applications and a real-world development project to build an entirely modern, Enterprise-class PowerBuilder application from the ground up was explored. Topics included the strategic decisions made regarding platforms, architecture, code reuse, and the design of a UX with an eye to for the future. In addition to demonstrating this groundbreaking development effort, Don presented a variety of ways to update older PowerBuilder applications to achieve higher user satisfaction and productivity. A variety of Sybase tools, including PowerBuilder 12 Classic, WPF, and Appeon for PowerBuilder was demonstrated.

Topics for future meetings are subject to change based on speaker availability and scheduling.  Watch the newsletter for details for each meeting.  A meeting will not be held in November due to proximity to the Thanksgiving holiday.  December is the annual holiday party.  SUG-TX usually meets on the 4th Tuesday so add a recurring appointment on your calendar.

5)  Sybase TechWave 2011 at SAP TechEd in Las Vegas – Last Chance to Register

Sybase TechWave 2011 will be held along with the SAP TechEd conference at the Venetian Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, NV from Monday, September 12th through Friday, September 16th.  Registration and travel information is available at:

6)  Sybase Recognized As Leader In Mobile Device Management Enterprise Software For Tenth Consecutive Year

New Report from Leading Industry Analyst Firm Highlights Sybase Afaria Solution Holding 19.8% Share of MDM Market

DUBLIN, Calif. — August 24, 2011 — Sybase, Inc., an SAP company (NYSE: SAP) and industry leader in enterprise and mobile software, today announced that leading IT market research advisory firm IDC, in its recent Worldwide Mobile Device Management Enterprise 2011 – 2015 Forecast and 2010 Vendor Shares report [1] recognized Sybase as the leader in mobile device management (MDM) enterprise software market for the tenth consecutive year.
