Synposis
Since PowerBuilder 10.5 introduced DataWindow gradients, only a few applications have used them. Modern applications have controls with gradients. They give a fresh look to an old application. Where developers used solid colors to highlight columns, gradients add nuance, flair and more.

Jeff Wayt is President of IOBar, Inc., a Houston, Texas, independent software vendor since 1991. He has over 30 years of experience in software design and development, both internal and commercial, and 14 years with PowerBuilder.

Location details and registration information can be found at: http://my.isug.com/e/in?eid=155

Please pass on this invite to your peers and colleagues.

The meetings are held at HAL-PC, 4543 Post Oak Place, Suite 200, Houston, TX 77027 (map).  Members frequently continue discussions at Champps Sports Bar after the meeting while waiting for traffic to subside.

The Sybase User’s Group of Texas recently finalized a rewrite of its website www.sugtx.org.  The site has been completely rebuilt using leading web technologies, including WordPress, commercial-grade WordPress templates, and WordPress widgets. 5) Database & Developer Digest Blog

Check out the Database & Developer Digest Blog by Adrian Bridgwater at www.isug.com.  One of his latest blogs states “Business Week has reported on plans currently being made by SAP to release a new version of its Sybase Unwired Platform.  The new iteration will reportedly be enriched with tools that let more software application developers create applications for sale through SAP’s online store.

Co-Chief Executive Officer Jim Hagemann Snabe has spoken about a new online development tool (code-named Neo) that lets programmers customise the appearance and feel of SAP applications on smartphones, tablets and PCs.”

6) PowerBuilder Developer Conference alongside SAP TechEd

Did you know that there is a separate PowerBuilder Developer Conference running alongside this year’s SAP TechEd conference in Las Vegas?

When TechEd 2012 Las Vegas was initially announced there was nothing about PowerBuilder in any of the materials, but shortly afterwards, the PowerBuilder team announced their conference.

Unfortunately, little information about the conference was initially posted.  There was a call for papers and paper acceptance, but it wasn’t until the beginning of September that the session abstrasts were posted online.

We’re going to highlight these sessions over the coming days, but it is interesting to note that all of the technical breakout sessions this year are being presented by end users and partners. None of the breakout sessions are being presented by SAP/Sybase employees. Why is this interesting? Because it shows someone at SAP/Sybase is listening, as attendees at Sybase’s former TechWave conference always indicated that these were the types of presentations they most wanted to see.

And don’t forget the ISUG/eLearnIT pre-conference training course that will be held on the Sunday/Monday prior to the conference.

So, what are you waiting for? Check out all the conference details, and then get yourselves to Las Vegas!
